Your book became part of my morning devotional time
"There were several chapters that I re-read, especially The Telephone Booth. That pivotal chapter expressed how those critical times in our Christian walk we face news that brings us to a place that is only resolved by a miracle and we find a deeper surrender to God. About 7 years ago our pastor spoke on Joshua 4, titled “Remember What God Has Done.” The scripture was, “when your children ask 'what do these stones mean?' tell them that the Israelites crossed Jordan on dry ground.” He said we forget the ways that God has brought us through difficult times, the way he has sustained and blessed us in unforgettable ways. This book is your “remember this day what God has done” and the many uncrossable rivers that He brought you through! What a gift to your children and grandchildren, and such a powerful witness to everyone who reads your story. I have ordered a few more copies of the book to give to friends and one for my grandson. He will be a senior next year and plans to attend the University of Oklahoma. "This book is amazing! Dr. Shepard utilized his life's stories, coupled strategically with some comical moments, to keep the reader engaged. His story is a unique one in that he was the first to break through so many barriers while trusting God all the way. Don't get it twisted, even though this is an autobiographical book, the message is resounding for youth and adults that as we go through life, continue to trust God for his guidance, the scripture of Proverbs 3:5-6 is proven over and over again. Inspirational story
"I really and truly enjoyed this autobiography! I purchased this book from Mr. Shepard because I wanted to support an alum who was on campus when I was at St. Augustine's College (now University). I read about half of the book in one setting. I could not put it down! To read about your faith in God, the love story between you and your wife, and your strong family values was truly inspirational. I also am familiar with Garner Consolidated High School and recognized that Mr. Shepard's competition in mathematics is a family friend that I haven't contacted in years, but will try and make a connection. A good read for all ages, especially our youth
"This is an inspiring TRUE story about a young African American male growing up during a period of unrest and CHANGE in America. It chronicles the life of one growing up in the rural south, particularly North Carolina. His journey paralleled many of the experiences I (although a number of years younger than Robert) had as a young African American male growing up in NC. In that regard, I could relate to a lot of the things he experienced. Like the author, I too had a similar journey as I pursued my Ph.D. (albeit it at a predominantly white institution). It is quite evident, that his beliefs & faith, moral fortitude, and love of family, were integral ingredients that fueled his many successes & accomplishments (an unwavering WORK ETHIC, notwithstanding). This is a good read for the anyone, especially our youth, many of whom don't have the same values, moral compass, & sense of FAMILY, etc.....oftentimes no fault of their own....these things are taught (by our elders), learned, & lived! A must-read for making a difference
"Is anything too hard for God?" What a magnificent insight into the life of a man (Dr. Robert Louis Shepard) who was blessed with the wisdom of knowing that life is a gift from God and is always ordained and controlled by God. I found the reading to be exciting, intriguing, motivating, easy to relate to and spiritually discerned. Any person reading this book has to be inspired regardless of their circumstance, due to the hope, courage, and determination of this author, who's foundation was that of a Christian heritage. I know that the same spirituality and heritage will live on because God blessed me to not only meet this author, but to become a comrade, friend and brother in Christ. Having been one blessed to sit under his lecturing and teaching and then to read his autobiography my simple but Christian reply would be Amen! I would encourage anyone (especially our young generation of African American men) seeking, hope, inspiration, and a desire for the will of God to read this book. I assure you, you will be blessed."

From the beginning he was a dreamer and like myself many times would get lost in his dreams
I found Dr.Shepard's book inspirational and motivating. We are about the same age and share many of he same childhood. memories.Dr. Shepard has had international success but it is his strong respect that he has for the role of a christian, praying mother and the values that were ingrained in him since his earliest years that I appreciate the most and to which I can relate.

High school and young adults as well the educators and counselors that teach and impact youth would do well to read his book and fallow his example. We will not have success and acclaim that he has achieved but we can do our part step by step each day to do that which makes a difference.
