Introducing Young People to Science and Engineering


The author Implemented mentoring programs/activities to augment the academic classroom education of underrepresented students by providing opportunities to broaden their exposure and awareness in the areas of humanities, fine arts, and various other culturally relevant growth activities.


In 2002, secured funds to take 55 persons (35 students, 15 chaperones, and 5 staff) from author's hometown of Garner, North Carolina on an educational field trip to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.  In 2003, returned to the Kennedy Space Center with 60 students and teachers from the public schools in the Washington, D.C. area.
